Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said that under the categories of Economically Weak Block (EWS) and underprivileged Group (DG), a lot of computerized draws were held on Wednesday for 42,000 seats for the entry of students under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and underground group (DG) categories.
Sood said that in the previous years, there was a lack of transparency in the admission process.
He said, “This year, under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, a lot of draws were organized in the presence of parents and media to ensure fairness,” he said.
The minister said that the Delhi government has taken a big step towards expanding the reach of education by increasing the EWS income limit from this year. 2.5 lakhs 5 lakhs, allowing children to benefit more from the deprived background to benefit from quality school education.
For nursery admission, a total of 24,933 seats were available, for which 1,00,854 applications were received. For Kindergarten (KG), 4,682 seats were available, which attracted 40,488 applications. In class 1, 14,430 seats were for allocation, with 62,598 applicants, he shared.

The minister said that the school for admission level admission was around 3,134 — there were 1,299 for nursery, 622 for kg and 1,213 for class 1.
In this program, two children were honored to start a draw. Bhavesh, a resident of Shamnath Marg, pressed the draw button for kg and class 1, while Bhavika started a draw for nursery, said in a statement.
Sud said, “The draw for the nursery was successfully held and all the figures were immediately secured. A three -member committee was directed to send a signed CD in which the Director of Education was aware.”
All the students selected in the draw will receive a message by this evening and will be called to the Directorate of Education (DOE) for document verification.
“Once the DOE confirms the documents and approves the entry, the school cannot deny admission based on the issue related to any documents,” Sood said.
He said that to ensure the integrity of the process, neither the Director of Education, other officers, parents, nor the media representatives were allowed to carry mobile phones inside the room, where a draw was held to prevent any human intervention, he said.
The minister said that the registration period for children with special requirements has been extended to transgender students and other categories, as the number of applications received in these categories is less than the available seats.
