New Delhi: With the aim of creating a stress-free learning environment for students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved the draft norms to conduct class 10 board examination twice a year since 2026. According to official sources, the draft criteria will be available in public domains for feedback and suggestion from all stakeholders by March 9, 2025.
Last week, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and CBSE officials held a high-level meeting to discuss CBSE Global course structure and implementation strategy twice a year for board examinations.
Since 2026, CBSE Class 10 to conduct board exams twice a year
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has recommended that students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in board examinations. With epidemic hit, later compared to intention, CBSE has decided to formulate a strategy for board exam twice a year. A meeting was held with the Education Minister in which the following discussion was held:
- CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2026 twice a year.
- A draft policy is to be developed for the same.
- All stakeholders, including schools, teachers, parents, students and others (general public etc.), can share their feedback and suggestions by 9 March 2025.
The policy will be finalized after examining the reactions received from stakeholders.
“Both exams will be conducted on full syllabus and candidates will be allotted the same examination centers in two editions. At the time of filing the application, the examination fee for both examinations will be increased and collected, “A senior board official asked PTI.
“The first and second editions of the board exam will also act as complementary examinations, and no special examination will be conducted under any circumstances,” the official said.
CBSE exam 2026: Examination and result date declared
The board has announced the date of CBSE Class 10 exam 2026, issuing the draft criteria. The first phase of CBSE Class 10 board exam will be held from 17 February to 6 March 2026. The second phase will be held from 5 to 20 May 2026. It has also shared a symbolic schedule. The CBSE 10th result for the first phase will be declared by 202 April 20, 2026. The CBSE 10th result for the second phase will be declared till 2026 August 2026. However, the board will announce the CBSE 12th result 2026 by May 20.
CBSE 10th Exam 2026: The main attraction of the proposed scheme
- CBSE has announced that the examination centers will remain the same for 1 and 2 phases of examinations.
- Around 26.6 lakh students registered for CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2026.
- Class 10 subjects of science, mathematics, social science, Hindi and English will be held on a certain day as is currently done.
- Regional and foreign languages ​​will be investigated in a single day.
- For the first time, the examination fee for both stages will be increased and collected at the time of filling the LoC. This fee is non-worthy.
- First/ second examinations will also act as complementary examinations.
- No passing certificate will be issued after the first phase of examinations. However, 1 phase performance will be available in Digilokar.
- Merit certificate will be issued only after the second examination.
